ROSEBUD MUSIC FACTORY

October 2nd, 2008 by v12v

The Community Resource Development Organization (Credo) will soon be launching the Rosebud Music Factory. This project is being done in collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club of Mission, South Dakota and is targeted to be up and running by January 05, 2009. The goal of the Rosebud Music Factory, is to facilitate anyone interested in the art of music from playing musical instruments, to recording, labelling and finally producing CD’S, as a recording studio will be part of this venture.

The project also seeks to promote self esteem, respect and personal growth among each and every individual that participates in this program, there by rekindling the ”the fire of hope” and providing opportunities in the musical field for the people of the Rosebud Reservation.

Credo is now in the process of gathering musical and studio equipment from various sources to assist in making the project become a reality. Should you wish to donate any type if musical and/or studio equipment please contact Shastri at 605-856-8127, or e-mail v12_ve@yahoo.com

The Community Resource Development Organization (CREDO) is now an official Non-Profit entity. Credo got the letter of smiles from the Inland Revenue Service, out of Cincinnati on September 25th, a date that will surely be remembered by all who have been associated with this organization from its  inception to the present.

To all those that started and those that are presently associated with Credo “AN APPRECIATION THANKS” for your time, your contributions, your donations and your support. Now let us all get together and move as one, to build a bigger and better community.

Planning Meeting for Upcoming Youth Summit

July 29th, 2008 by giantthaw

Several community collaborations are being networked for an upcoming youth summit to be held here on the Rosebud Reservation.  This Lakota Youth Leadership Summit will be held August 18-20, 2008 at the Sinte Gleska University Multi-Purpose Building.

The theme is A Celebration of the Sacredness of Youth, Family and Life and is a “youth empowerment” effort to address issues affecting the wellness of youth on the Rosebud, to include young people from 10 to 24 years old.

Leo Campbell, lead coordinator through the Boys & Girls Club and CREDO, stated “We were able to receive funding to address community concerns regarding youth suicide, substance abuse, gang abatement and health and wellness issues.  My hope is that we make this an annual event, because nothing like this has ever been organized here for our local youth on such a large scale.”

Collaborative entities include Indian Health Services (IHS) Mental Health, White Buffalo Calf Woman Society, Boys & Girls Clubs of Rosebud, CREDO, Inc., all Sinte Gleska University Departments, Circle of Care, Rosebud Sioux Tribe (RST) Administration, RST Education Department, RST Law Enforcement, RST Alcohol Treatment Center, RST Diabetes Prevention,  St. Francis School District, White River School District, Todd County School District through their “Safe Schools, Healthy Students” funding.

Campbell would also like to see addressed the need for parks and recreation infrastructure development for every community on the Rosebud Reservation.

Stay tuned for more…

Graffiti in our midst

Graffiti abatement in progress         New overlay the next day

Antelope Community, including the city of Mission, is by most standards, a very small community, with only about 2000 residents.  Yet we share an unfortunate similarity with the big cities and that is… the presence of street gangs and their graffiti.

Graffiti is that psychological warfare used to infuse fear and discouragement into law-abiding citizens.  If the graffiti remains unchallenged, it succeeds in accomplishing that goal. ..

At CREDO, “we believe” in using community-based resources to bring about positive change to our area, whether those resources be youth, volunteers, interested adults, faith-based organizations, funding sources, businesses, government entities, and so on.  So, here’s an idea for graffiti abatement using these and other resources.

Consider these “why nots”.  Why not…

…engage our youth to wipe out the graffiti by establishing abatement teams of 1 adult and 2 youth…

…secure and use leftover paints and used brushes and supplies from local entities (i.e., from SWA Housing, City of Mission, YouthWorks, Tree of Life Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, Todd County School District maintenance, churches, individuals)…

…set up C.A.M.P. sites (Community Allotted Mural Placement sites) for our local and talented young artists to express themselves in a positive way and take on a feeling of ownership in their community…

…get slick by painting the finished murals with oil to discourage grafitti overlay…

…call it the GR.A.M.I. Project (GR.affiti A.batement*M.ural I.nfusion)…

…organize mural competitions and establish the GR.A.M.I. Awards for the winners (and everybody wins, don’t they?)…

…include area businesses and entities as sponsors…

…revel in the ongoing community collaboration…

and why not??  Let’s do it….

Do you live in or around Mission/Antelope?  Would you like to be part of this effort, provide a positive role model to some of our young people, and do the community a service? What a great grassroots opportunity!

Help us organize this project and develop our greatest community resource –      OUR YOUTH !           Call us at CREDO — Leo at (605)856-8127 or Chris at 208-5126.

CREDO’s Arts & Music Festival Summer 2008 !!

July 17th, 2008 by v12v

Mission/Antelope Horizons Project formally launched CREDO, Inc., their soon to be officially non-profit organization, with another dynamic event, this time an outdoor Arts & Music Festival, flavored with music from local bands such as Kool Watre, Denim Blue, Cabin Fever, just to name few.

The event took place at the Boys & Girls Club parking lot in Mission.  The patrons who attended were very supportive of the various artists and craftspeople there,  some coming from Rapid City and Sioux Falls, to participate in either their first, second or even third show in Mission.

Not to be outdone, the food vendors had all patrons properly fed with mouth-watering cuisine from Indian tacos, nachos, buffalo burgers to snow cones, all intended to fill you up and cool you down on what could be best described as a hot and beautiful day of family activities. Even the kids had their very own “Kids Corner” where they created arts and crafts. One even brought beaded wrist bands and necklaces to be sold, and we are pleased to announce that she sold out and headed straight to the community pool with her earnings. It was a good day for her as well as all who took part.

So with another show under their belt, and the CREDO organization up and running, the sky is the limit as to what this vibrant and buzzing organization can accomplish.

Community Alliances - BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF ROSEBUD

June 28th, 2008 by giantthaw

Another community collaboration CREDO, Inc. is working to solidify is with Boys & Girls Clubs of Rosebud (BGCR), whose main location is on the Rosebud Reservation in Mission, SD on Highway 18.   In addition, the charter was recently granted permission to open two new satellite units, one at Parmelee, and the other in Rosebud, SD.

BGCR’s programs are focused on children and youth, something CREDO would like to build on when creating community projects and programs for youth development in and around the Mission/Antelope Community.

To that end, the Board of Directors of Boys & Girls Clubs of Rosebud agreed to have the Summer 2008 CREDO Arts & Music Festival held on the BGCR grounds.  Kudos from CREDO.
