A Little More on CREDO

June 9th, 2009 by giantthaw

CREDO, Inc. — Community Resource Development Organization – was formed February 22, 2008 as a result of participation in the NWAF funded Sitting Bull College Horizons Program.  Based in Mission, SD, CREDO, Inc. is a community-based, volunteer-run nonprofit entity established to arrest and alleviate the negative effects of poverty for all residents of Mission/Antelope and surrounding communities on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota.

CREDO, Inc. envisions Mission/Antelope and surrounding communities of the Rosebud Sioux Reservation as a safe, culturally diverse, spiritually strong, environmentally healthy, and financially thriving area where its residents enjoy life in peace and free from the negative effects of all forms of poverty.

CREDO, Inc. believes this can be accomplished by:

a) identifying, developing and correlating available resources found both within and outside of the community, and

b) more effectively utilizing these resources by collaborating with other entities and organizations to offer a variety of events, activities and programs for training, mentoring, recreation, area beautification, and economic development in order to promote a general sense of community pride, wellness and mutual respect.

Wolakota, Shalom and R.O.A.M.

May 6th, 2009 by giantthaw

In recognition of the many talented artists here on the Rosebud Reservation, we at CREDO, Inc. have been working to assist them in the marketing and exposure of their work.  Our efforts began with our first Multi-Cultural Arts & Crafts Market in December, 2007, followed by three other such markets in 2008, all held at the SGU Multi-Purpose Building in Antelope.

For these events, we have utilized electronic and print media to advertise, soliciting local and regional artists and providing them a venue to display and sell their product.   Also at these events, we have showcased local food vendors as well as area musical talent.  In addition, we have included a Kids Corner to encourage children and youth in the arts.

And now, as a natural offshoot of these efforts, CREDO, Inc., in partnership with Tree of Life Ministry and Great Plains Art Institute and facilitated by Communities of Shalom Initiatives/ Drew University of New Jersey is working toward the formation of an artist’s coop here on the Rosebud Reservation.  This cooperative will be run by the local artists themselves, with technical assistance from CREDO, Inc. and the other entities mentioned to include internet marketing.  The artists have chosen the name Rosebud Oyate Art Market (R.O.A.M) for their cooperative and have secured the SGU Student Lounge for a series of weekly art markets to run every Thursday evening from May 28 through August 20, 2009.

ARTS & CRAFTS MARKET

March 13th, 2009 by v12v

The first scheduled Credo Arts & Crafts Market for 2009, may be up in the air as the regular venue Sinte Gleska University Multi-Purpose facility, is about to undergo renovations on their basket ball court where the show is normally held. This development will cause a slight set back as the organizers of the event are now forced to secure a new date and month, to host this rapidly growing event. Credo’s chair Leo Campbell stated, that the date is tentative for 04/04/09.

Nevertheless all interested vendors, artists and crafts people that wish to take part in the Arts & Crafts show should contact the Credo office at 605-856-8127, for further information and registration.

Coming fast on the heals of the success of the Arts & Crafts shows, is the formation of the Rosebud Music Factory, which will be a hugh boost for the people of the Rosebud community. The Credo music committee is now is search for an adequate size building to house all of the musical equipment that has been donated for the cause, the committee is also hopeful that they can launch the Music Factory with a bang at the beginning of summer with an out door concert, invited guests and members of the media for around the state.

The committee is always open to ideas for this venture, so if you or any one that you know will like to share or even be part of this effort, please feel free to call the office at the number stated above.

Happy New Year

January 9th, 2009 by v12v

Happy New Year to all, from the board and family of the Community Resource Development Organization (CREDO). Well it is another year and there is much to get done for the Credo family. The Rosebud Music Factory for instance will finally get off the ground, so that we can get our people involved in the musical art form. There is even talk about a boxing gym, but it is not high on the to do list from what this blogger heard. Anyway, musical instruments are still needed for Music Factory project, so if you or anyone that you know, have any type of musical instrument that you or they wish to donate please feel free to contact Credo at 605-856-8127, so that arrangements can be made. As some of you may know our Christmas Art and Craft show was held last year on December 8, and I am saying last year, as though it was that long ago :) but the show turned out to be a lot bigger and better than our previous shows which says that the organization is doing well and is doing something right when it comes to our Art and Craft shows, more artists and a lot more people attending , we hope it continues on that path and will be doing everything to ensure that it does. So from all of us at the Credo office thanks for your support in ‘08 and we will be looking forward to your support again in ‘09.
